SEO versus PPC – Which is Better for You!

At Dunamis we are often asked which is better Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or Pay Per Click (PPC). In this short feature we are going to look at pros and cons of both options and reveal our approach.


Before we do that let us start by giving you a clear definition of both marketing strategies.


Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – This is a process used by marketers to improve the position of a website in the organic search results. The ideal result is to get a website to show in the top 3 natural search positions as this is where most people click through. Done well SEO normally results in an increased amounts of quality visitors to a web site.


Pay Per Click (PPC) – PPC stands for Pay Per Click and is remarkably simple advertising system in which marketers only pay if someone click on their advert. The most common use of PPC is on search engines such as Google (their system is called AdWords) and Bing. It is also possible to advertise this way on several the Social Media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn.





SEO or PPC?

One of the key differences between SEO and PPC marketing is the time required to see results. Because search engine optimization takes time to implement it is a longer-term strategy. Whereas a Pay Per Click campaign can be go live quickly and start driving traffic to a website immediately.


Given these facts you may be wondering why anyone would bother with SEO at all.


There are a couple of good reasons for using SEO as part of your online marketing strategy.

The first is that SEO generates visitors to your website for free. The second is however more important. Research has shown that many people scroll past paid advertising, preferring to click on the listed websites. As a result, the cost per lead and quality of results from SEO tends to be better.
